Left Handed Tools
"A Southpaw
Handyman"
Left Handed Tools
purchasing can
be a challenge for southpaws since there is not much on the market.
It's kinda funny when you think that the most popular comedy tool show
on
t.v. was "Tool Time" which was hosted by Tim Allen, a lefty.
Thank goodness most power
tools are designed for everyone to use. However, if you
happen
to be a lefty, then you may realize how difficult it is to
operate some power tools. The on/off switch being in a location
that isn't easy to get to in the event of an emergency is
the most common complaint among us southpaws. There are many power tools
on the market that can be used easily
for left handed individuals including power screwdrivers, routers,
nailers,
drills,
and sanders. This is because the manufacturers has positioned the
on/off switch in the middle of
the power tool so it can be accessed from the right side or the left
side
The
most common complaint with saws for left handed people is that the
blade is on the right hand side which makes it difficult for them to
cut. Us lefties have two choices - hold it the wrong
way and hope the cut ends up being straight or face it the other way
around with the blade coming at you and the materials coming at you.
Neither is a very effective option. Actually a table saw
works best because you can choose to cut on either the right side or
the left side of the blade.
Left handed tool belts are becoming an easy item to find as they are
manufactured by
many tool makers. This is very helpful and a step in the left (right)
direction :).
While gardening
is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable hobbies a
person could have, it can become very aggravating, awkward and
dangerous if you are left- handed.
Some
manufacturers have started making garden tools
geared for a left or right handed person and some strictly for a
left handed person. To help make gardening
easier, left hand
tools are becoming ergonomically designed with the cushion grips. Some
of the
left handed gardening tools that I have found very useful are; pruners,
angle weeder, left hand dutch hoe, and twisted trowel, just to name a
few.
Left Handed Tools
are slowly being added to the market as manufacturers realize
we are
becoming an important segmant as a consumer. In additon, many tools are
being remodeld to use with either hand. So, don't surpress
your
creativity if you can't find the left tool, keep
searching, email tool manufacturers of your needs, or better
yet, build one yourself and sell it and get rich!
